47th Annual Tecate Score Baja 1000
Last November 14th took place the off-road race Baja 1000. The loop race went from Ensenada to La Paz and back. This off road race allows different types of vehicle classes to compete, such as; buggies, fabricated race vehicles, trophy trucks, motorcycles and custom fabricated race vehicles.
The four time off road racing champion, B. J. Baldwin, made a time of 18:36:10.017. Fascinated by the sport, he started as a young kid following several forms of racing. A limited two seat buggy was his first off road racing car at the age of 17, when he started his own very small off road racing program, a very small operation.
He raced in several limited classes for seven years. After a while racing unlimited buggies he made the jump to the most elite and fastest vehicles in off-road racing: the premier Trophy Truck division.
It was not easy for him to drive a truck, Larry Ragland was his mentor. After some time learning about maintaining speed, car control, making the truck go fast without hurting it mechanically, and how to set up and carry speed through corners, Baldwin won a truck race repeatedly.
Over the years, he went from a very small racing team to the most successful off-road racing team. He has exceeded the expectations of the program.
