The Mystery of Baron

On October 19th Hotel Coral and Marina hosted there second Evening of wines and appetizers.  The theme was the same as the previous event, but was named “Los Enigmas Del Baron” or the Mystery of Baron because this month’s featured winery was Barón Balché.

describe the imageDuring the evening the oenologist and wine expert Jesus Rivera shared information with the guests on three of the new wines from “Baron Balche” which will go on sale in approximately four years.  For 30 minutes Jesus talked about the fermentation processes that are used in their renowned winery. Before the tasting he discussed important variables that should be under control to ensure top quality wines, such as the temperature, aging time, the grape maturity and the material of the wine glasses.

To compliment the tasting, Chef Jaun José Gómez showcased an exclusive presentation and served appetizer such as lamb lasagna, roasted eggplant and artichokes, regional chesses and artisanal breads that proved to be a pleasure.

The event started with a 2008 Chardonnay whose tropical characteristics were detected from the moment it was served in the wineglass.  When the guests drank the wine for the first time the flavors of pineapple and apple coincided and were a delight to the palate.   The oenologist explained that these intense flavors are due to the fermentation processes that they use and the good quality of grapes used during the production.  The night continued with a merlot that had been aged in closed pore French barrels and the first characteristic that was described was the “sweet as candy” aroma that the wine features.  The dominant flavors that the wine highlighted were a toast taste and the strong grape taste that always distinguishes red wines.

describe the imageTo complete the evening the waiter served a third wine, a Cabernet Franc with a strong floral smell and a deep red color.  When the guests took their first taste, there was an instant sweetness followed by the delightful lingering tastes of menthol and eucalyptus.  After the wine tasting the oenologist answered a lot of questions from the audience and he taught them the proper way to taste wines.

“Los enigmas del baron” was a successful event that was a true reflection of the wine culture that characterizes Baja California.  These types of events that Hotel Coral and Marina offers are always a great excuse to reunite for an evening of fun where you can meet new people or catch up with some old friends.    Do not miss the next Evening of Wines and Appetizers.
