Hussong’s Cantina

If you come to Ensenada and ask around about a traditional place you should visit there is not doubt that people will recommend you the Hussong’s Cantina, one of the oldest landmarks of Ensenada that with its relaxed atmosphere has been witness of countless stories. Many can tell you “If you did not visit the Hussong’s Cantina in Ensenada, you have not been in Baja yet”. When Ensenada was a very small town with only 5000 residents, it welcomed the German John Hussong, who was the founder of this famous bar in 1892.

However the cantina Hussong’s did not start as the bar as we know today; in its early years it was a restaurant that offered beer for a nickel and whiskey for a dime, and in which the backyard was used to make horseshoes. Few years later John returned to Germany to marry with his fiancée Louisa and convince her to come to Ensenada, since then three generations of the Hussong’s family gave their best effort to keep the uniqueness of this bar. On 1974 it was removed the name “John” and started as Cantina Hussong’s. Nowadays this is a complete brand that offers a wide range of products from t-shirts to tequila, and of course the best beers, the traditional margaritas and the warm hospitality of its staff.
