Baja California has different islands along its coastline; we have already talked about the Todos Santos Island and the surf activities that take place in its big waves, now it is the turn of the Guadalupe Island Biosphere Reserve.
Guadalupe Island is a volcanic island whose age is probably 7 million years, this according to the analysis of the stones that compose it. The island itself is the top of an underwater volcano over 5000 meters high, whose base is located 4500 meters deep in the Pacific Ocean.
As part of the species that are protected in the island we can mention the Guadalupe Fur Seal and the Northern Elephant Seal. Also with a growing population the white shark has made the island one of their few shelters in the world.
The island offer touristic activities and probably the most popular is the white shark diving but you can also practice sport fishing; companies from US and Ensenada, Baja California offer these services with the adequate safety equipment. If you want to go by your own you may request a special permission with the Mexican government and, if sport fishing is what you are going after, you also require fishing licenses.
