Whale Watching in Baja California

Whale watching
Another great experienced in Baja California that we want to share with you is whale watching. Across the peninsula, from Ensenada to Los Cabos, Baja California Sur you can find many spots to experience this activity.

Whale watching is the practice of observing whales in their natural habitat; we can enjoy this activity here due to the migration of the gray whale, made from December – April to reproduce and give birth.  Their migration journey is considered one of the longest migrations of mammals.

Some interesting facts we can share about the gray whale is that they can reach 52 feet and weight up to 35 tons. They were almost extinct in the past but thankfully many countries articulated and enforce federal laws to protect them, now they reach their natural population as they had before the hunt activities. They live in the cold water of the Bering Sea and Antarctic; in their migration journey they travel 9,942 miles approximately in close to 6 months (round trip), going 164 feet under and just a few miles away of shore.

If you are interested on live this amazing experience there are many companies that offer tours of this nature. The best time to take the journeys is early morning or sunset, in these you can get closer to these amazing animals, sometimes closer enough that it seems you can touch them. Also, if you are lucky, you will watch one of their amazing jumps.

If you are visiting Ensenada during the migration season this attraction must be one of your tour choices… The experience of whale watching is something you will not forget.
