The Old Wine Route

The Old Wine Route

When we think about the Baja California’s wines we all talk about “The Wine Route” located in the valleys at Ensenada, Mexico; but just some people know about “The Old Wine Route” in which the wine culture of Baja California started.

Renovation: a new wine cellar

Nueva cava de vinos / New Wine Cellar

At the beginning of the 2010 we started a big renovation process that involved different areas of our facilities like Antares Restaurant, Arrecife Bar, our lobby and the big stars, our suites. Proud of the regional wine and considering that our state produces almost a 80% of the Mexican wine we decided to build a wine cellar inside of our restaurant, which provides the opportunity to purchase wines to take home at a very similar price as the vineyards or to enjoy them with a delicious meal or dinner with just paying corkage.

The Harvest Festival

Fiestas de la Vendimia / Harvest Festival

August is a very special month in Baja California especially in the wine valleys from Ensenada. In this warm month the vineyards begin with the harvest activities to produce their delicious wine, that is why during this season the “Harvest Festival” is organized, which is a celebration to thank the land for the production in the year. The origin of this festival is from the ancient Greece where celebrations were held in reverence to Dionysus, the god of wine.

Tasty options in Baja

There are lots of options you can choose from to make your trip to the Mexican state of Baja California unforgettable. These options go from extreme sports to cultural activities, but there is no doubt that one of the biggest awards given to this part of the world is the now traditional and singular Baja-Med cuisine. This particular style combines seafood with products introduced by the Europeans like wines and olive oils. This is the reason why we recommend you ask for the dish that is special in each of the places you visit; you will find lobster, artisan cheeses, wine, regional beers, just to mention some.

The Wine Country

If you are interested in the wine culture and wish to learn more about it, Ensenada is the best option to do it.  Because of special features like the climate, type of land and location the northern of Baja California is the biggest producer of Mexican wine, primarily in the Guadalupe Valley just a few minutes away from the city of Ensenada.
